TUTORIAL ON CREATING SIMPLE MANIPULATION WITH LIGHTING EFFECTS IN PHOTOSHOP

How to create a spotlight effect in Photoshop? 

Photoshop can be used to call attention to a particular area of a photo. When you need your product to really stand out in a particular setting, you can use the spotlight effect.

Step1

With the help of the Layers Panel, create a Duplicate Layer. Right-click on the Background layer and select Duplicate Layer. Name the new layer Spotlight. Convert the new layer into Smart Object by using the option of Smart Objects in the Layers Panel.

Using the Lighting Effects filter, you can create the lighting effect that you want for the image. The preview window offers multiple ways to adjust your Spot. There are several sliders available for managing different ellipses. You can manage the inner ellipse with the help of Hotspot slider.

In order to mask out dark areas caused by the spotlight, click on the Smart Filters layer mask under the Spotlight layer. You have to gently paint over areas of your image where you want to bring back the original lighting.

How to change the colour of light in Photoshop? 

Manipulating the colour will help in changing the mood of the photo. It can also produce consistency among the images.

Step1

Using the Lighting Effects filter, you need to choose the Colorize option or the Color option. Colorize will change the overall colour, whereas the Color option will affect only the spotlight’s hue.

In the upper left-hand corner of your Preview Window, you will see an option next to Presets that says Custom. Click on Custom and choose Save from the dropdown menu.

You would like to use a gradient map adjustment layer so that the image immediately changes colour depending on whatever colours you have as your foreground and background.

How to create a Lens Flare in Photoshop? 

Lens flare can create additional sparkle to shiny products such as jewellery or light fixtures.

Step1

To begin, you need to duplicate the Background layer and convert the duplicated layer to a Smart Object. Name the duplicated layer Lens Flare. Choose the Lens Flare filter option. Now you can use your cursor to set the brightest point of the lens flare on the shiniest, brightest point of your image.

Step2

In this step, you can select Smart Filters layer mask and, using your Eraser tool, mask out portions of the image where you want to bring out darker colours.
